Artist Statement

Every human being begins with the best possible versions of themselves with the best intentions. However as life goes on, people can morph and change into violent, ignorant, selfish and the worst possible versions of themselves. Regardless of how we see them, are they not still human? Do they not still believe that they are presenting the best versions of themselves? Yet, if our fellow human beings fall into the dark on our often stark black and white scale, we no longer give them a second look, let alone a second chance.

As a performance artist, I try to tackle the very preconception that once a person commits a misdeed, they can only be judged by this action. I take the stage and embody a character with the idea that at their very core all people only mean the best for themselves and those that surround them. Assuming that everyone has a bit of humanity to them, my work then encompasses expressing that the worst in people is more oft than not justifiable because of how they have developed as a person and showing how this character experienced their downfall or committed their misdeed.

In my art I develop this humanity through expressing these characters inner being to the best of my capabilities by making use of my own real life experiences with those of others and creating a conglomerate of authentic, relatable and truthful experiences and emotions. Using this conglomerate, I transform a character a tangible human being with real feelings and real decisions with real consequences and express that this character may make mistakes or may seem to be evil personified, but in the end they are a person like everyone else.
